Our patent pending, vented 2nd Generation fire pistons feature state of the art technology, O ring seal reliability and fire lightng performance capability that is simply incredible....

Because O rings seal so effectively, all fire pistons having an O ring suffer from an inherent drawback. Trapped air inside the cylinder prevents full insertion. Like a spring, the compressed air forces the piston back out of the cylinder making it inconvenient to carry and causing the risk of a lost piston. We find solutions such as putting a thread under the o ring or changing O rings to be unacceptable and have therefore developed a solution to this problem - and it works so well its being patented.

The solution was to engineer an integral pressure relief valve that allows the trapped air to be released yet that is easily re-sealed, enabling full compression for fire lighting. Once the valve is closed, the piston is effectively trapped by vacuum preventing its accidental loss in the field.

Note: Add a hidden ferocerium sparking rod to any of the 2nd Generation designs for only $14.95. (The rod is sheathed inside the piston shaft and accessed by unscrewing the cap.)

This high temp sparking rod provides the option of two fire starting methods in the same compact device. The patented alloy used in these rods sparks very easily such that you can even make fire with a piece of broken glass or sharp stone chip as shown in the video clip.

2nd Generation fire pistons are absolutely the hotest firing and latest state of development in compression fire starting and are available in both exotic Coco Bolo Wood or lusterous Asian Water Buffalo Horn. They feaure brass tipped shafts for long service and durability and like all Wilderness Solutions fire pistons they're covered by a lifetime repair warrantee.

For the fire by friction enthusiast, the nylon carry cord makes an exceptional low slippage cord for bow drill fire making. By adding the optional Hidden Fero Rod the Pendant Pistons offer three different fire making methods in one compact device.

Due to their higher compression, the full size pistons have a slight advantage in efficiency when it comes to lighting more challenging tinders. Tinders such as cattail fluff may require more than one attempt and will first char then ignite to coal. For most commonly used tinders the Pendant Pistons will ignite in a single effort just like their larger siblings.
