This fire piston is a recreation of an original shown in the Smithsonian photo. The original was collected about 1900 by General Jacob Kline, US Army during the Philippine-American War.

Wilderness Solutions has performed extensive research into the origin and design of authentic fire pistons. The photo below, showing original fire pistons from the Philippines was provided to Wilderness Solutions by The Smithsonian Institution.
